During a family trip to Africa more than 20 years ago, Todd Nelson fell in love with the people, culture and spirit of “Ubuntu,” which was the inspiration behind what is now Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. Recently, the Nelson family had a spiritual homecoming visiting the place that started it all – the Kalahari Desert in Botswana. While in the middle of this vast arid plain, they encountered all kinds of creatures and experiences, from the largest migration of zebra and wildebeest in the world to hundreds of elephants swimming in the Boteti River.
One of the most obvious connections Kalahari Resorts has to Africa is in its name and logo. Even under the harsh conditions, the Kalahari Desert has thousands of plants and trees thriving and is home to the largest elephant population in Botswana. Throughout Kalahari Resorts, guests will find the majestic creatures of the Kalahari Desert depicted in paintings, sculptures and attractions and an atmosphere that mirrors the lush areas of the desert.
